"As you may be aware, Safework NSW visited our Burwood project last week for a drop in inspection. Following a number of previous scaffold blitz’ across the industry, scaffold is still being heavily focused upon.
The SafeWork inspector conducted a complete walk across the project and was very impressed with the quality and maintenance of the scaffold. There were no items identified regarding the scaffolding during the visit. The inspector stated that it was the best scaffold he had seen in some time.
I would like to praise the Five Star Scaffolding for their high standards in quality and attention to safety.
Great job guys, it is a pleasure to have you working across our projects."
Developing a safety culture in our team means imprinting the highest levels of safe work practices across all job functions. The ultimate benefit is reducing any workplace incidents.
Creating a strong safety culture does not just improve safety, but benefits productivity, staff retention and overall organisational behavior.
It is our SAFETY FOCUS cycle and quest for continual safety education and improvement that keeps us ahead of the game.
All employees are trained in the essentials of job safety. The training doesn't end with our team - we apply the same expectations to everyone working on our projects
The team must then implement the training to minimise and manage all risks and abide by all safe work methods on the job site.
Safety performance can be measured in a number of ways
Measure outcomes after an incident (e.g. incident rate, lost time due to work injury), and is a measure of past results.
Measure activities to prevent or reduce the severity of an incident in the present or future (e.g. safety training, safety audits).
What gets measured, gets done!
Measuring performance allows us to identify:
Are we achieving our overall health and safety aims and objectives?
Are we managing safety and health effectively (ie are we doing it right)?
Do we have an effective health and safety management system in place across all parts of the organisation?
How do we compare in the industry? Can we learn from our counterparts?
From these learnings, we flow through to ongoing OHS training to achieve the best possible safety practise.
Safety is not a priority at Five Star Scaffolding, it’s a PRECONDITION.
Occupational Health & Safety is uppermost in our minds in all that we do. It begins with thorough training of all our personnel to ensure every manager, yard worker, delivery driver, supervisor and installer is competent in fulfilling their own OH&S responsibilities. We demand accountability on the part of all our team members to perform their duties within the framework of OH&S directives.
Five Star Scaffolding is committed to using only high quality materials and equipment and inspecting their condition following removal from each job. Five Star Scaffolding is a company with community spirit. We enjoy being a part of our local community and contributing to its growth and success.
One way that we do that is by employing young people who are looking for fulfilling jobs and careers. Being a part of a scaffolding team instils a sense of camaraderie as all members of the team have to work together for the good of each project. We take experienced and inexperienced applicants and provide them with comprehensive training in scaffolding skills, working at heights, Occupational Health & Safety, first aid and a number of other important skills. We demand commitment and diligence and in return, we provide a safe, healthy and rewarding workplace in which they can grow, build friendship networks and aim for career advancement.
We are always eager to be seen as supporting various community initiatives, such as our sponsorship of important organisations and causes.
Five Star Scaffolding are proud to be associated as a Sponsor for the very important Westmead Children’s Hospital and in particular, the Bandaged Bear Appeal. We also make regular donations to the Australian Red Cross and we will also be assisting children’s cancer charity, Camp Quality throughout 2016 and beyond.
We hope that by setting an example as a corporate sponsor and benefactor, we may prompt other businesses to seek out charities and other valued organisations and provide financial assistance or other tangible support
